DAV has now become synonymous with academic excellence. It is a 128 year movement which entered the Public School System in early seventies and lent it responsibility and dignity by infusing into it time honoured values of our rich heritage.

 

It has a unique history, which can be traced in the politico socioeconomic scenario that emerged in Punjab. Young Arya leaders desired an educational institution, which would be free from government control and which the Vedas would be taught alone with English Literature & Science for the harmonious development of the students. Consequently, the first DAV institution was established at Lahore in 1886. Since then a network of DAV institutions has sprung up all over the country. The DAV management in running more than 725 educational institutions, which include Arts, Science, Commerce school & colleges. Right from its inception, this institution at Lahore with Mahatma Hans Raj as its Head Master, has been nursed & nurtured by eminent people like Lala Lal Chand, Bhai Parmanand, Lala Dwarka Dass, in the past and later Lala Sain Dass, Justice J.N. Kapur, Justic Mehar Chand Hahajan, Dr. G.L. Dutta, Lala Suraj Bhan, Prof. Ved Vyas, Sh. Darbari Lal, Sh. T.R. Tuli & Padamshree,Sh. G.P. Chopra, President DAVCMC . DAV has the honour of producing many great patriots like Lala lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, noted scientists like Noble Laureate Dr. Hargobind Khurana, Politicians like former prime minister of India Sh. I.K. Gujral, Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee & present Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Top Bureaucrats like Ex- Chief Justice Sh. M.M. Punchi, former Chief of the Army staff Gen. V.P. Malik, former UGC Chairman Prof. Yashpal,many sports personalities of India like Kapil Dev, Raman lamba, Yuvraj Singh, M.S. Dhoni, Dinesh Mongia, noted gazal singer Late. Jagjit Singh, Cinestar Shahrukh Khan, astronaut Late Kalpana Chawala, Captain Saurabh Kalia, Captian Vijayant Thapar, Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Sandeep Sagar, Captain Parminder Singh Singhwan, Lt. Sachin, Major Raman Dada, Flight Lt. Gunjan Saxena, the brave sons of DAV who defended our borders &rendered laudable services during Kargil War for which they were conferred gallantry awards like Pramveer Chakra, Mahaveer Chakra, Veer Chakra & many more. The growth of the DAV society can be attributed to the secularism inherent in the Indian Culture, which is symptomatic of unity amidst diversity. It laters to the educational, physical, moral &scientific needs of the children.
